Our motorized hurricane screens are made with aramid and polyester fibers, the same types of material used in ballistic body armor. Our hurricane screens are comparable to an aluminum roll shutter for strength but unlike aluminum shutters, they do not block the light and you can see through them. Product ConsiderationsHurricane screens are not as flat as shade or insect screens and will have some noticeable wrinkles due to the fact the screens are a little baggy and it is not uncommon for there to be some “feathering” along the edges. The bagginess is because the screens are designed for hurricanes and missile impacts, shade is an added benefit. The bagginess exists to meet the engineering requirements of the anchor and the extremely high design pressures the screens can withstand 165mph winds. Hurricane screens block a significant portion of water, but they are made from a woven material that is 9% porous. This allows a little bit of airflow, but also allows some water to come through; they are not a water barrier. The primary purpose of hurricane screens is to protect a structure from wind borne debris impacts and hurricane force winds.
